The title of Porsche’s best-selling car in the US for the third quarter goes to its all-electric vehicle, the Taycan. Particularly, Porsche’s EV came third on the company’s most sold vehicle models in the recent quarter, falling only behind the company’s SUV offerings, the Cayenne and the Macan.
Bestseller: Taycan
The critically-acclaimed electric vehicle from Porsche became a hit with American buyers. Particularly for the recent quarter, between July and September of this year. Last week, the carmaker announced that Taycan, which entered production in September 2019, placed third in terms of sales for all models. It also became the brand’s most bought sportscar.

Additionally, in terms of sales the Taycan also beat Porsche’s 911, which serves as the marque’s most iconic model, Robb Report notes. Moreover, the Taycan even outperforms the 718 sports car. Meanwhile, Porsche’s Panamera Sedan placed last in the company’s list by sales.
Figures
Porsche managed to sold 1,858 Taycans in the third quarter, a higher figure than four other offerings from the company. Meanwhile, the brand’s previous best-selling car from the same quarter last year, 911, sold 1,567 units, a figure 7.9 percent lower.
Furthermore, sales for Macan dropped by 15.6 percent from the same period last year, with only 5,466 units sold. However, it remains the model with the highest sales in the third quarter. Cayenne comes in second, which saw a 4.9 percent higher year-over-year sales, with 4,509 units sold.
Meanwhile, Porsche sold 1,064 Panameras in the recent quarter, a 16.6 percent drop from last year. The 718 sports car saw a boost of 3.4 percent, with 1,084 units sold. Overall, the company sold 15,548 units, five percent higher from last year’s same quarter.
Amid Challenging Quarter
Joe Lawrence, executive VP and COO of Porsche in North America, expressed his gratitude to their customers and dealers amid a challenging third quarter.
Meanwhile, CNN Business quoted a Porsche spokesperson saying that the company sees higher demand than supply so far. “But keep in mind that sales of individual models vary throughout the year.”
CNN Business further reports that the US serves as the automaker’s second-largest market, behind China.
“We’ve never had such an exciting lineup in US showrooms, with demand for the new all-electric Taycan growing to the point that it was our third best-selling model line this quarter,” Lawrence stated. He also acknowledged the “legendary customer service” on top of their “thrilling cars,” that brought Porsche to recover in sales.
