After salmonella outbreaks across several US states, the FDA has recalled fruit products at Walmart for possible Listeria contamination. The Listeria organism can kill young children, seniors, and people with weak immune systems.
Dirty Fruit Products at Walmart
CNN reports that the dirty fruit products came from Country Fresh. The company gives these products to retail stores like Walmart to sell. However, the FDA found Listeria samples on the equipment used to package the products.
According to the FDA order, don’t buy or consume these fruits or fruit products:
- Pre-cut apples
- Grapes
- Mangos
- Pineapples
- Cantaloupes
Do All Walmart Branches Sell These Products?
In the order, the FDA says many of the suspected dirty fruit items got shipped to the Walmart branches in these areas:
- Arkansas
- Illinois
- Indiana
- Kansas
- Kentucky
- Louisiana
- Missouri
- Oklahoma
- Texas
Moreover, the CDC says that the suspicious items have use-by dates between October 3 and October 11, 2020. The CDC says that if you’ve bought a possibly tainted fruit or fruit item, throw them away immediately. Do not consume them, either.
After the order, Country Fresh said that it has begun pulling out all fruit items from stores and inventories. The company adds that no one has reported illness yet.
How Do I Know if I Caught Listeria?
If you get a Listeria infection, you’ll get a high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. However, if you’re pregnant, you could suffer miscarriages or stillbirths.
